So after nearly two months without gainful employment I have been offered a new job. I am intending to start on Tuesday. All I have to do is sort out the final payment from the company that made me redundant - Surprise, surprise it arrived in my bank account "a bit light" and I think they have done me out of a load of holiday that I didn't take?!?!?
To be honest I've really enjoyed my time off - I've done loads of stuff with the family - although it's been a bit stressful at times, but I think it's going to be a bit of a shock to the system going back to being a "slave to the wage".
I'll let you know how I get on.
I started my new job on Monday. Seems OK so far. Most importantly, I'm not away in Belfast for three nights a week so I get to see the family more.
In fact I was really cheeky yesterday, (only my second day) and skived off early to take one of my children to the osteopath.
The thing is I have taken a pay cut (in real terms) to come and work here, and as it's technically a start-up there is also a bit of risk involved. Therefore, until it makes me my first million, I'm going to take advantage of the fact it will mean that I can spend more time with my family and make up for the seven weeks I spent in Belfast away from them.
Putting my children to bed on a Sunday night and closing the door on a tearful "I don't want you to go to Belfast Daddy. I'm going to miss you." is not an experience I ever want to repeat. To not have to do that is well worth the risk and the drop in pay.
